A dog is waking up for the day. She is in a dog house, surrounded by a gray, metal chain link kennel. A young female steps out of a dull pink house, and turns towards the kennel, a smile on her face.

“Hey Shannon! Good morning girl,” she exclaimed as she reached for the lock on the door. Removing it, she let the dog nuzzle the door hatch open like Shannon always does. She trotted out of her pen and sat in front of the woman, her side leaning against her owner's leg, and turned her head to the side. The woman reached down under Shannon's front leg and scratched her belly; the dog raised her paw and leaned even more against her owner.

“Come on, Shannon,” she turned and ran towards a young man who had grabbed equipment for a game of badminton: two bats and a birdie. He passed a bat to the woman and they spread out across the lawn. Shannon waddled over to them and shook her head back and forth, trying to figure out who to go to for love.

“Shannon! Shannon!” The man and woman clapped their hands and stomped their feet as they shouted with excitement. She wasn't entirely sure what they were doing, or why, but their excitement was transferring to her. She felt the anticipation build up inside of her. It made her happy and uncomfortable at the same time. The energy kept building. She had to get rid of it. She burst across the lawn, spiraling around the two people giggling at her. They kept shouting her name, and cutting it off, making “Shannon” sound like “Shan”. The magic in this ritual confused her, but she only kept running in tighter circles around the two people, who, by now, were on the grass laughing. Seeing them within reach, she rushed in between them, crawling over their bodies in order to make sure they noticed her.

Both people reached for her body, wrapping their arms around her. Their hands snaked up and scratched behind her ears. Shannon cuddled into them before they jumped off and ran into the garage, bat and birdie in tow. Shannon pulled herself to her feet before following behind.

As she trotted through the doorway of the garage, she turned towards the man sitting at a gray, metal desk covered in faded sharpie. She sat patiently next to his chair as he contemplated his next move in his online cribbage match. When he didn't acknowledge her, she stood up and moved forward a few more inches before curling her body beneath her. Her slightly bristled tail swished back and forth across the concrete, making a light, scraping sound. The man looked over to see her tongue hanging out of her mouth. Shannon struggled to scoot closer to the man, her tail beating even faster.
The young man and woman approached the man's side, pointing at Shannon.

“Look dad, she really wants one of those treats,” the woman said. The young man shuffled forward and peered into Shannon's eyes.

“Shannon, do you want a treat? Do you want a treat, girl?” He reached to scratch behind her ear, and she couldn't help but lean into his hand. She didn't notice the other man reach into a bag hiding behind the computer monitor.

“Here, Shannon”, he said a bit gruffly. “Not that you need it.” The young man emphasized his father's statement by patting her round belly. The brother and sister turned towards the house as Shannon licked up the remaining crumbs of her treat. With a glance back at the man still in front of the computer, Shannon padded into the driveway following after the young pair. She continued after them – onto the brick patio and up the step into the house.

Rounding the corner, Shannon caught scent of something cooking in the kitchen. She decided to investigate it. She only had to round one more corner before the room would be in her sights. When she peeked around the cabinets, however, all she saw was a petite woman turned away. Startled by the clicking sound Shannon's nails made on the floor, the woman turned around, holding a dish and almost running into the dog in the process.

“Oh!” the woman exclaimed, balancing the dish in her hands. She had to take a step backwards in order to keep the dish safely in their hands.

“Shannon, get out!” she said sternly. Shannon heard the change in the woman's voice, and quickly scooted out of the room.
Meh. Was supposed to write a short story to create a script for our final film. This is the product. Decided to post it because it had been a while since I'd put anything up.
